Pre Summer- Kid Studio:
June 11 - June 22
KID STUDIO is our popular open-ended program. Each child leads the direction of their creativity using our 2000 sq. ft. studio and the wide variety of materials and resources we offer. Although the program is student directed, new projects are introduced regularly in short mini lessons designed to expand each child’s creative inquiry. During a typical day, students can be found making a clay sculpture, drawing from a realistic 3D model or live animal, or painting on a canvas with artist grade acrylics. The possibilities are limitless!

Animal Art & Explorers
June 25 - July 6
ANIMAL ART focuses on the beauty found in nature, from bright vibrant colors of the parrots to the shiny scales and textures of the reptiles at the studio. Kids will have the opportunity to interact with a variety of animals while they create artwork representing what they see and observe. This camp will focus on drawing and painting techniques. Available to children 4 years and older.
EXPLORERS breathes life back into scientific study! Always hands-on, always fascinating, EXPLORERS delves into experimentation with wonder and awe. Students learn from a rotating schedule of life and physical sciences. Available to children 4 years and older.

SURF ‘N SKATE ART is back by popular demand! Students will learn about how our unique Santa Cruz surf and skate culture goes hand in hand with creating a variety of styles of art. They will create their own stickers, logos and paint skateboard decks!

Art Outdoors
July 23 - August 3
ART OUTDOORS is our summer camp that emphasizes creating art from nature. During the first week of camp, we will be hosting camp at Ocean View Avenue Park. The second week will be located at Natural Bridges State Beach. Although painting is emphasized, kids also draw with pencils, charcoal, and pastels. Fun, cooperative games round out each day.

Session 4
Animation Workshop
August 6 - August 17
Animation Workshop is back! Working in small cooperative groups, kids will create storyboards, sets, and shoot a small stop motion movie. Kids will use a wide variety of props and materials to convey their concept, allowing them to engage in traditional art making techniques alongside filming their animations. Using the schools 10 tablet computers, each group will work concurrently to develop and film their creation.

Digital Photography
Walker displays his completed digital photo montage. He took all the pictures from models at the school, terrariums, and even a self portrait. He then digitally collaged them to form the composition. The image was printed on professional canvas and mounted on mat board at SDI.

Digital Art
August 20 - August 24
Digital Photography and Digital Art class is unlike anything available to kids in Santa Cruz! Kids use both point and shoot and professional dSLR cameras to take their photographs. They learn composition and correct camera handling for studio, action, portrait, and macro photography. They import their original photographs into one of 10 tablet computers and work in both Corel Painters X and Adobe Photoshop CS4.
