Nature Tutor - Curriculum Aide

Seven Directions Institute of Art & Science is Santa Cruz's premier multi-media studio for kids. Our innovative programs have earned several “Best of” Awards and are known for our individualized attention to students' interests. The studio has over 75 live animals and countless models for inspiration from real life to fantasy characters. We are expanding our programs to include a Monday-Friday Academics & Art Outdoors to offer homeschool and afterschool enrichment.

Job Information:

Seeking a dedicated educator with experience teaching outdoors and enthusiasm for multi-age curriculum in a project-based, democratic structure. Collaborating with group mentors, administration, and students' families, Nature Tutors develop flexible lesson plans in Language Arts/Social Studies and/or STEMS (Science/Technology/Engineering/Math/Sense of Place), guide topic-based group lessons and break-out sessions, document students' progress, coach students on goals, and stay alert for teachable moments. September – May contract, 25-30 hrs/wk with time for meetings and planning, continuing education opportunities, and potential for long-term employment as pilot program grows. Compensation commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Seeking a dedicated outdoor educator with experience teaching multi-age groups academics in a project-based, democratic structure. Collaborating with other group mentors, administration, and students' families, Nature Coaches oversee a group of at most 8 students ages 6-12. They implement flexible lesson plans in Language Arts/Social Studies and/or STEMS (Science/Technology/Engineering/Math/Sense of Place), guide play & explore sessions, coach students on group dynamics, and stay alert for teachable moments of social skills & nature connection. September – May contract, 25-30 hrs/wk with time for meetings and planning, continuing education opportunities, and potential for long-term employment as pilot program grows. Compensation commensurate with qualifications and experience.
